Our Nuvi Maps are an extremely useful add-on for anyone that travels to farms, fields, or other rural locations on a regular basis. Simply insert an SD or MicroSD memory card into your GPS and you'll have the ability to search for quarter sections in the same way you'd search for stores and restaurants in the Nuvi's simple to use interface.

Nuvi LLD Maps are available for Western Canada (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta) & the United States (currently N. Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Colorado, Oklahoma - contact us for additional States)

FAQ LLD Maps FAQWhat are these maps you are selling? The maps add the location of section and quarter section centres to the base map that is already installed in your Garmin GPS. They were created myself, Simon Knutson, because I was often having to find farms and fields during the course of my business as a Precision Agriculture Consultant. Being originally from England I was having a very tough time navigating on the Prairies! I spent many months compiling the data and figuring out how to make it run in a regular Garmin GPS. The maps are now available for the Provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta in western Canada, as well as N. Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Colorado (and possibly more by the time you read this!) in the USA. Additional States may be made available if there is demand.What kind of GPS do I need to run these maps? The maps can be used on all Garmin NUVI models as well as StreetPilot models with a slot for SD Card. They can also be run on Garmin Aviation and Marine units that accept a Garmin Data Card, such as the 496, 495, 396, 296, 376C. To check if your unit will run the maps you can go to the Garmin website and search for your model number. Under the 'Specs' tab look for 'Maps & Memory'. If your unit has the ability to add maps and can accept a data card then you can run the Legal Description Maps. If it says accepts SD or MicroSD card then you'll need the card on the NUVI page, if it accepts Garmin Data Cards then you need the LLD for Aviation map card.If you aren't sure if your unit can run the maps please contact us prior to purchasing.I want to buy a GPS to use with your maps. What do you suggest? If you are looking for a simple vehicle unit that will run the legal description maps (and works really well for navigating in the city as well) the best options are probably the NUVI 255, 255W, 265, 265W. These are super cheap now, often under $150, and do everything you need (unless you need bluetooth, traffic reports etc). I have a NUVI 255 which I've owned for over 2 years and it's been great.We try to source these GPS units and sell them at cost together with the LLD maps, take a look at this page for current availabilitySomething to keep in mind is that the newer Garmin models have an updated firmware that automatically de-clutters the screen meaning the section numbers don't display as you are driving along. Apparently Garmin got complaints about lots of icons etc cluttering the screen when people were in busy cities. This isn't a big issue because the section numbers do appear when you tap the screen, so you can easily see the sections you are adjacent to, but I personally prefer the older models so I can see the section numbers as I drive.How do I search for sections/quarter sections on my Aviation GPS? On the 496/495/396/395/296 etc you need to press the 'NRST' button until you see the screen that lets you search for Points of Interest.Will these maps work on my Tom Tom GPS? No, the maps ONLY work on Garmin GPS units.Will these maps take up memory on my GPS? The maps install on either SD/MicroSD or Garmin Data Cards depending on your GPS system. This means they are stored on the removable memory card and don't take up any space on your unit's internal memory.Do the Legal Description Maps update the basemap on my GPS?No. The LLD maps do not update anything already installed on your GPS.How accurate are the maps? The locations of section and quarter section centres are based on data made available by local and national government organisations. Some points are actual surveyed locations while some are theoretical, so we'd suggest they are accurate to within 250 feet in most cases, but can make no guarantees.In no way should these locations be used as exact locations for survey or legal mattersCan I use a Nuvi + your LLD maps in my aircraft? Yes, we have lots of pilots using this method. The main difference or disadvantage over the aviation models is that the Nuvi will not give you a bearing, just a line to follow. Simply set your GPS to 'Off-Road' to get straight line guidance rather than following the road. Note that Off-Road is not available on some of the budget units - if in doubt or looking to purchase a suitable unit please contact us first to make sure it will work.Can I use the maps in multiple GPS units? You can transfer the card between GPS units, but you'll need to purchase one card for each GPS that you plan to use simultaneously.The section numbers still appear when I'm zoomed out The maps are designed so that the labels dissapear once you zoom out a certain amount so they don't clutter the screen, however different GPS models seem to handle this differently so you may see some points and labels even when you zoom out several miles. If this bothers you either zoom out a little more or simply pop out the card until you need it again.I don't see sections numbers along the Canada/US border This is something I've just been made aware of. It seems the very last section before the border has been lost in some locations. I am working on a fix, and if this is affecting you please contact me so I can send you an updated map setSection numbers don't show up on borders between Provinces/StatesThis is because the different provinces are loaded as unique maps, and there is a little border area around them. Therefore you may not see the section numbers for 2 or 3 miles on one side of the border. The sections are there, just they are covered by the border from the neighbouring province. You can search for and navigate to these sections/quarter sections. If I can overcome the issue I will provide updates to those affected.GPS Related FAQWhy don't I see unpaved roads even when I zoom in? You need to set the Map Detail to the maximum level. Usually this setting is found in Settings > Map > Map DetailWhen I search for legal descriptions a long way away it takes too long The GPS will search through all the records starting at your current location and working outwards. Therefore any location more than say 100km away will take a while to find. To overcome this you need to use the 'Near' function when you search. When you click on 'Where to?' you'll see an option called 'Near' usually at the bottom of the screen. Tap this, then enter a town or city closer to your target location. The search will now begin at this location, not at your present location, so will be much faster.My GPS seems to calculate strange routes Our maps do not contain route calculators, this is handled by the GPS software. Often the default setting is to avoid unpaved roads and to find the fastest route, so the GPS will try and keep you on paved highway for as long as possible even if this makes the journey longer. We suggest playing with the 'Avoidances' and 'Route Preference' settings in the Navigation Menu to find the combination that gives you the best results. You may also decide to ignore the GPS route if you can see a more obvious route (e.g. taking a gravel road), the GPS will re-calculate the route and should then put you on the fastest course. This is a case where common sense is still needed to keep the technology in check!
